During our development process and the creation of Fons, we were inspired by many women in the cycling world and beyond but one woman stood out from the crowd: Alfonsina Strada!
In 1924 Alfonsina Strada was the only woman among a crowd of men at the start of the Giro d'Italia. In this era, women weren't even allowed to bare their knees let alone wear cycle shorts! Alfonsina couldn't be stopped by anyone to get on her bike and therefore became the first and only woman to ride the Giro d'Italia. Alfonsina was a very strong lady who was a trailblazer for women's cycling. We, at Fons, find this piece of cycling history so inspiring that we decided to name our brand as a tribute to Alfonsina.
